Copa América 2024: everything you need to know less than 100 days before the tournament

On June 20, 2024, the 48th edition of the world’s oldest national team tournament will begin: the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta will host the match between Argentina and the winner of the playoff between Canada and Trinidad and Tobago.

Where will the competition be played?

There will be 14 stadiums across the United States. 

 


Four venues on the West Coast:

  1. State Farm Stadium
    Located in Glendale, Arizona, it has a capacity of 63,400 people and will host three tournament matches.
  2. Allegiant Stadium
    With a capacity for 65,500 fans and located in Las Vegas, Nevada, it will be the venue for three games of the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™.
  3. SoFi Stadium
    In Inglewood, California, it can accommodate up to 70,000 people and will host two matches.
  4. Levi’s Stadium
    Located in Santa Clara, California, it will host two competition matches and has a capacity for 68,500 spectators.


Five in the center of the country:

  1. GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium
    In Kansas City, Missouri, with a capacity for 76,400 fans, it will host a Copa match: United States vs. Uruguay.
  2. Children’s Mercy Park
    Will be the stadium for one matchup (Peru against Concacaf 5), with a capacity for 18,500 spectators, and is located in Kansas City, Kansas.
  3. AT&T Stadium
    Is a stadium with a capacity for 80,000 people, where three matches of the CONMEBOL Copa América United States 2024™ will be played. Located in Arlington, Texas.
  4. NRG Stadium
    Located in Houston, Texas, it will be the venue for three tournament games and has a capacity for 72,200 fans.
  5. Q2 Stadium
    Two matchups will be played in this stadium with a capacity for 20,700 spectators, located in Austin, Texas.


Five on the East Coast:

  1. MetLife Stadium
    Located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, it has a capacity for 82,500 people and will be the venue for three tournament matches.
  2. Hard Rock Stadium
    Venue for three games of the CONMEBOL Copa América™, located in Miami, Florida, and can accommodate up to 65,300 fans.
  3. Inter&Co Stadium
    Is a stadium with a capacity for 25,500 people, located in Orlando, Florida, and will host two tournament matchups.
  4. Bank of America Stadium
    Located in Charlotte, North Carolina, it will be the venue for two matches of the CONMEBOL Copa América United States 2024™. It has a capacity for 74,500 spectators.
  5. Mercedes-Benz Stadium
    Venue for two games in the tournament, located in Atlanta, Georgia, and has a capacity for 71,000 fans.

What is the tournament format?

There will be 16 teams, matching the number from 2016 as the edition with the most teams in the tournament’s history. The 10 CONMEBOL teams plus 6 qualified CONCACAF teams will play; two places still need to be decided (Canada/Trinidad and Tobago, Costa Rica/Honduras) in playoffs to be played on March 23.

There will be 4 groups and the top two from each group will advance to the quarterfinals. The tournament will have a debutant: the winner of the playoff between Trinidad and Tobago and Canada will compete for the first time.

Last champion?

Argentina won the edition of the tournament held in Brazil in 2021. It was 1-0 against the home team with a goal from Ángel di María.

Most successful team in the CONMEBOL Copa América

Argentina and Uruguay have won the tournament 15 times each.

 

Where will the final be played?

On July 14, the final of the CONMEBOL Copa América United States 2024™ will be played at Hard Rock Stadium, in Miami, Florida. It has a capacity for 65,300 people.
